Results Out, Drama In Madhya Pradesh As Congress Pings Governor

NEW DELHI:  The Congress ended the BJP’s winning streak in the three heartland states of Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday in elections that are seen as semi-finals before next year’s national elections. While the party won Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, it bagged 114 seats in Madhya Pradesh, two short of majority. In Telangana, K Chandrashekhar Rao won a huge mandate and in Mizoram, the Congress was crushed by the tribal Mizo National Front. “We accept the people’s mandate with humility,” PM Modi tweeted. Even as counting for the Madhya Pradesh polls continued around 2:45 am, Congress leader Kamal Nath claimed in a short press meet that the party has won absolute majority. Another leader, Shobha Oza, suggested that the party may not even need the support of the Bahujan Samaj Party or Independents
